• Lowly lab tech Elsa McKinnon wants nothing more than to rise in the ranks of space-scientists posted to the Galileo 6 but a rivalry with the head Science Officer keeps her from moving up. The situation deteriorates when her sleep becomes disturbed by strange dreams. Dreams she believes are messages from the stars. She becomes obsessed by the meaning of these dreams. When it looks like her career is done before it started, a strange messenger arrives.

Between adjusting to a new rank in life, the conflicts this creates with her coworkers, the politics of the United Government of Earth, and a budding romance with her Other counterpart, Elsa doesn’t know what action to take. She freezes. Unfortunately, indecision creates a power vacuum and not everyone is pleased with the arrival of the Others. As circumstances spin out of control, Elsa's skills are put to the test. Will she be able to stop a war?

Though she’s finagled a ride aboard an Other ship with her Other counterpart, Auracada, she still has to contend with the aftereffects of human sabotage, a dangerous journey, and a growing faction of aliens who don’t want her and her friends aboard their ship. Oh, yeah, and she has to somehow learn to speak the alien language and figure out a bit of Dreaming magic at the same time. Simple, right?
